Complementing my interviews, today’s Author Spotlight, the two hundred and eighty-sixth, is of children’s author Ashley Howland. If you would like to take part in an author spotlight, take a look at author-spotlights.
Ashley Howland lives in Adelaide, South Australia with her husband Ross, two daughters, Maddy and Aijay, and her two spoilt Labradors, Obi and Stitch. Her girls inspire her every day to write children’s books and the dogs often provide the material.
Ashley also works as the curriculum manager for Labs ’n Life. This requires random extra Labradors to appear in their lives and of course in Ashley’s stories. You can find more information about Ashley and her books here: http://ahowland.org.

And now from the author herself:
I love to write, especially for children. It is always fantastic to hear what they like to read and what they have enjoyed about my books. A number of times I have been told children have been caught up past their bedtimes because they were reading my books. There is no greater compliment.
A lot of my material comes from my life. My first book was written on a camping trip. My second was all about my amazing dog – Obi and my third comes from my teaching. I got sick of students telling me they had lost their homework or the dog had eaten it. So I used to tell them that they needed to come up with better excuses than that.
My example was always The Homework Goblin. So my third book was born. There are so many more ideas in my head, from the new dogs (Stitch and friends) in my life, to super hero adventures and pirate stories. My girls are also wonderful at giving me more ideas and some very unrealistic deadlines! I only wish I had more time to write.
Writing is my passion, my release and the best part about it is sharing with others. I love the amazing support I get from my family, friends and the writing communities, largely found on social media. I also enjoy supporting other authors through my Stitch Says blog, where I interview and review. Through this I have read so many great books and met so many fantastic authors. I look forward to meeting more.
Getting my first book published was a dream, now I am hooked!
