Podcast ‘Red Pen’ Episodes

** Please note that I no longer run red pen episodes but do offer critique (first 1,000 words free) via http://morgenbailey.wordpress.com/editing-and-critique.**

The podcast is available via iTunesGoogle’s FeedburnerPodbeanPodcasters and Podcast Alley.

To fill the gap in the podcast schedule left by the audio interviews, I run ‘red pen’ episodes where I read out a short story or self-contained novel extract then comment on it. I’m firm but fair but I know that the episodes are listened to around the world (NB copyright always remains with the author – and I only read the story, I don’t paste it into the blog) so if you’re precious about your writing then this may not be your cup of tea.

If you have something a novel extract with synopsis or short story (preferred), ideally 1,500 words max, that you would like critique on, then feel free to email me. If you are sending a novel extract, please indicate where in the novel the extract is pulled from, thank you.

These were the red pen episodes I ran:

  • The first ‘red pen’ session episode was released on Monday 8th August 2011 featuring a 325-word flash fiction entitled ‘Green’ by San Francisco-based writer and musician J D Mader and the podcast is available via the links at the top of this page (and in the ‘Where to find me’ side menu) with a summary here and you can listen to the episode here.
  • The second ‘red pen’ session episode was released on Monday 22nd August 2011 featuring a 1,591-word short story from Aneesa – the summary was posted here and you can listen to the episode here.
  • The third ‘red pen’ session episode was released on Monday 5th September 2011 and featured a novel extract from crime writer Lae Monie who was also my author spotlight no.2. A summary of the podcast episode was posted here and you can listen to the episode here.
  • The fourth ‘red pen’ session episode was released on Saturday 17th September 2011 and featured a 883-word short story entitled ‘The Sow’s Ear‘ by J D Mader. A summary of the podcast was posted here and you can listen to the episode here.
  • Aneesa returned for episode no.5 which was released on Monday 10th October 2011 and featured a story called ‘You are my reasons’ -– the summary was posted here and you can listen to the episode here.
  • Episode no.6, released on Monday 24th October 2011, was an extract from forthcoming novel ‘Firebound’ provided by teacher and writer Kathryn Wild – the summary of which was posted here and you can listen to the episode here.
  • Episode no.7, released on Sunday 6th November 2011, featured a short story by Aaron entitled ‘On the edge’ – the summary was posted here and you can listen to the episode here.
  • Episode no.8, released Sunday 27th November 2011, was a novel extract by crime writer, spotlightee and contributor of red pen critique podcast ep3 Lae Monie – the summary was posted here and you can listen to the episode here.
  • Red pen no.9, released Wednesday 28th December 2011 – was my critique of a short extract from ‘The Desolate Garden‘ by Danny Kemp. You can listen to the episode here.

There’s also plenty of information dotted around this blog, predominantly in the Submission info.Competitions Calendar and Events sections.
