Extract from podcast episode 2 (August 2010) – tenses

Short and sweet but here’s a little bit on tenses that I had at the end of the viewpoint section (see post below this one): Another aspect of writing is tenses. The most commonly used are past tense; he went, she said etc. and present tense; ‘He says it’s fine but she doesn’t believe him’, or ‘I reply to his message and hit the ‘send’ button with a smile.’ There have been stories written in the future tense but like second-person it takes a bit of getting used to when reading it but worth persevering. There’s a great article about tenses at Hub Pages http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-use-Past-Tense-Present-Tense-and-Future-Tense-in-Novel-Writing.
