Word Count Wednesday 6 Oct

Good morning. Yes, it’s that time of the week again. How have you been getting on?

I’ve been quite good, albeit on the last day, and have written 1,677 words, ten over an average NaNoWriMo day. I’m tempted to take part in that next month but you know how I struggle for time. But then we can all make time, can’t we?

I’ve been continuing the new idea I started last month and it’s going well. I have a non-Prologue prologue, that is a very short opening pre-Chapter 1 chapter that gives us the hook before back in time that then leads to the hook.

I say a non-Prologue prologue because – and some of you will know this – I’m not a fan (at all) of prologues headed thus. I know some of you love them but ew, no. They can put off some readers (myself included) who will skip them and if the information needs to be known then calling it Prologue runs the risk of them doing so.

As I tell my (editing) authors, it’s not their fault but best avoided. I recommend having a time and place, so we (the reader) know where/when we are or a different kind of heading, something you feel appropriate. I imagine at this point some of you shouting ‘Prologue!’. 🙂

Do leave a comment below to share your progress, successes and otherwise, and of course anything else that’s happened to you, writing wise, over the past seven days.
