Word Count Wednesday: 7 Sept 2022

Good morning. Yes, it’s that time of the week again. How have you been getting on?

Having received my WIP back from my editor Graham, I thought I’d have started this week with a minus but I didn’t! Okay so only 41 words ahead but it all helps.

‘This week’ ended up being yesterday only due to a mix of working, sleeping (lots of that as T was on night shift so I slept when he slept and when I slept!), a hospital visit (to go from a boot back to a cast) and generally trying to be a little more sociable with T’s housemates. T was working from 3pm to 11pm yesterday so I had that time, and a bit before it while he was reading, Mick Herron’s Bad Actors, to write, albeit with an interruption of the conveyancing paperwork on my house so one step closer to moving!

Not being sure where the current WIP was headed I decided to switch to another – are you like me with several on the go? – which had little ‘meat’ (one chapter) but a better idea of where it was going to go so more likelihood of words in a short amount of time. And I managed 5,118 (not including the aforementioned 41 words)! Very happy with that, and yes I still know where this book’s going. 🙂

I stopped with actual writing at 11pm but did some ‘what happens next’ planning, which is always useful.

Do leave a comment below to share your progress, successes and otherwise, and of course anything else that’s happened to you, writing related, over the past seven days.

47 words ahead is 47 ahead… I hope you’re healing up okay. I’m concerned to hear you’ve gone back to a cast.

I had got ahead with the blogging last week, but something interrupted me…

I won an award! My third book, Dogs ‘n’ Dracula – A Road Trip Through Romania won a Chill With A Book Readers’ Premier Award! I am so thrilled! https://www.chillwithabook.com/2022/09/dogs-n-dracula-by-jacqueline-lamber.html

The interruption came because I have now had to send out a flurry of press releases and publicity. So when I thought I was a week and a half ahead with the blog I am now thinking I’d better get on with some actual creative writing, although I am struggling with the current post. We had a FABULOUS time in Matera in Italy, but I haven’t quite got the inspiration of how to cover our experience in a creative way.

Having cleared my decks on guest posts, I have also managed to promise some more!

So yes, like you, I do often have a few projects on the go, but I think it’s a good way to keep the creative juices flowing. If I am stuck with one thing, I can go on to another.

    Have a great week!

Hi! I would have been happy with the 47 but delighted with the nearly 6,000 (kicking myself for not doing another ten!). Huge contrats on your award, especially a readers’ award – they’re a tough crowd. Definitely inspiration for you to continue putting pen to paper/fingers to keyboard. And yes, I agree, variety is the spice of creativity. 🙂
