Word Count Wednesday: 7 Dec 2022

Good morning. Yes, it’s that time of the week again. How have you been getting on?

Last week I decided, with everything else going on, to put writing (novels certainly) on hold for until I’ve moved house and am settled in – I have to be realistic that it might not be until the end of January but that’s okay. It takes the pressure off.

I’m a shorts writer through and through and definitely need to be in the right head space for longer works so promoted my Your Unique Story feature which would get me back in the swing and I’ll probably continue with some monologues I’d been writing. I have nearly 30,000 words of them so definitely worth continuing. I’ll let you know!

Do leave a comment below to share your progress, successes and otherwise, and of course anything else that’s happened to you, writing related, over the past seven days.

Whew – another busy week with a nice round word count of zilch, but I have made lots of graphics for my book launch on Friday and have been trying to get a large online retailer to remove a pirate copy of my book. It’s time consuming and frustrating, but quite comical what the pirates have done. They seem to have run the book through word-sibstituting software, which has renamed my husband Mark Lambert as ‘Imprint Lambert’ who travels in a Procession, rather than a caravan!
I’ve also got some promising leads for podcasts and interviews, which is quite pleasing.
I hope to report a completed blog next week! 🙂
Best of luck with your monologues and Your Unique Story – what a brilliant gift idea!

Hi. How did the launch go? This week’s gone so quickly. I have a Google alert set up which catches a lot of my books online. I looked at getting something done initially but decided it would cost too much money. I think anyone trying to get a free book from an unauthorised source deserves to get a virus when clicking on the link. This doesn’t always happen but usually what these sites ‘offer’ instead of a real book. How bizarre about the word changing. Fingers crossed for your completed blog and finding other marketing sources; something I need to concentrate on when the move’s over.

Thank you – the launch went really well (by my standards!) I’m No. 1 New Release in Auto & RV Travel, Travel With Pets, Adventure Travel, and Eastern European Travel on Amazon.com, so I’m pretty happy with that!
This week has gone really quickly! The word count hasn’t improved, although I have submitted two interviews (Tweetables and Feedmyreads) and have been invited on to a podcast this Saturday to talk about my books by a US publisher who included one of my stories in an anthology.
Best of luck with the move, and I’m always happy to share details of my marketing efforts. Marketing is such an uphill struggle and could so easily become a full time job!
I got some of these marketing contacts from the lovely Maximilian Sam, author of two gorgeous children’s books about stray dogs. https://www.maximiliansam.com/post/a-guide-to-the-tools-i-ve-used-to-create-it-s-a-stray-dog-s-life-2

That’s amazing. I know it’s a smaller niche than non-fiction itself but you get the gold(?) banner. Ooh, I love a podcast. Do share the link when you have it. Marketing, yes…. Other than Amazon ads I do nothing. I spent a fortune on my lady Friday posting on social media and can’t say I got one extra sale. Book tours work the best, I think, for new reviews at least which LF made into posters which was great. Thanks for the link. I’ve saved it.

You’re welcome – I will drop a link to the podcast once it’s done.
I spend ages posting on social media, but I’m not sure how effective it is. Most sites seem to be full of authors promoting their books, and no readers! I haven’t worked out Amazon Ads yet, but it’s on my list…
I have a book tour arranged in the New Year. I did one for my last release and got some lovely reviews. It’s hard to correlate it with sales, but it certainly launched me into some new online spaces.

Newsletters seem to be the way to go. I get a good amount (low treble figures but building) of sign-ups but haven’t done any newsletters since Covid took over. I hope to get back up and running in February once I’ve moved and settled.
