Indies Unlimited promotes, and welcomes contributions by, independent authors. Once a week they host a 250-word max. competition and to-date have posted:
- The Undiscovered Country
- Timestream
- Insomnia
- Sudden Death
- The Rendezvous
- Harbinger
- Remorse (I entered :))
- Fire on the Mountain
- The Dream
- Dead Stop (I entered :))
- The Last Season
- Nowhere
- Losing It All
- Og Hunts
- Last Call
- The Bandit
- A Chance Meeting
- Gold Fever
The rules are simple… they post the prompt (with a photograph, usually taken by KS Brooks) on a Saturday. You have until 5pm Mountain Standard Time Tuesday to write your story (usually incorporating what’s in the picture). Voting opens on a Wednesday until 5pm Thursday and the winner is announced on a Friday.
There’s loads more to see on the website and if you subscribe (as I have) you’ll be overwhelmed with great postings from guest bloggers (about every writing topic you can think of), information on other competitions, frequently asked questions and so much more. They even have a bookstore and IU gear store!
Their home page is http://www.indiesunlimited.com. The site isn’t just a two-man (well, one man, one woman) band… author bios lists their ‘staff’, one of whom you may recognise as he’s prolific on my blog, JD Mader. I’ve also had the pleasure of interviewing David Antrobus, Kat (KS) Brooks, Rosanne Dingli and Yvonne Hertzberger.
Like many writing-related sites, Indies Unlimited relies on donations so if you like what you see, do drop them a dollar or two. I know it’ll be appreciated.
