Word Count Wednesday 2 Dec

Yes, it’s that time of the week again. How have you been getting on?

I’m delighted to say that I finished NaNoWriMo (a mere 45 words over but hey) and have written 20,625 words this past week (last Wednesday to last night).

While I won’t be doing an average of 1,667 words a day I will aim for 1,000 and actually wrote the first 1,716 words of ‘Henry Goes to the Cinema’, the fourth in my Rachel Cavanagh / Henry Houdini dog detective short spin-offs yesterday afternoon/evening.

The first is available (.99!) on Amazon but the second and third were part of this year’s NaNo so will hopefully be coming to your (computer/kindle) screens this side of Christmas, after Caroline has pulled them apart and I’ve gone through them (with sticky tape!) thereafter.

Do leave a comment below to share your progress, successes and otherwise, and of course anything else that’s happened to you, writing wise, over the past seven days.

One ‘k’ in one day – day 1 (1 Dec)

Hello. NaNoWriMo is over. The aim of that was to write 1,667 words a day so 50,000 in the month of November. I finished it with a mere excess of 45 words (it was 10.30pm) but had already decided to keep going on a slightly smaller, more realistic, scale of aiming to write 1,000 words a day, every day. There will be some days when it won’t happen but I will be keeping a record (nerdy Excel spreadsheet) of my progress and will be sharing it here.

Today I wrote the first 1,716 words of ‘Henry Goes to the Cinema’, the fourth in my Rachel Cavanagh / Henry Houdini dog detective short spin-offs (the first is available, the second and third should be this month) so a great start. As I said, I may not always make it but I certainly aim to at least have 7,000 words when I check in with you every Wednesday.

Do let me know how you’re getting on with your writing and if this inspires you to keep going then I’d be delighted to hear how you’re progressing.

NaNoWriMo update day 30 (done!)

At just gone 10.30pm this evening (UK time), I finished NaNoWriMo with 45 words spare. In the first couple of days I’d written 7,457 then nothing until the 18th. This is quite normal for me. In fact one year I had 42,000-something to do in the last eight days and I still did it so more paced(!) this year.

Now the editing process begins!… maybe in a day or three. 🙂

In case you missed my earlier posts, here and on Facebook, the second of my women’s fiction serial series, ‘The Serial Dieter’, is free until Wednesday! Do help yourself and tell your friends… and your non-friends. Thank you!

So that’s me… over and out. How did you get on?

NaNoWriMo update day 29

A belated day 29 of NaNoWriMo and 133 words under target, leaving 6,682 to do today/Monday. A stretch but possible. It’s 10am and I’ve done 748 of that and I’m on a roll – back with my monologues although I had an idea for a novel so may start that; easier with the time ticking (hammering) away than returning to a WIP.

In case you missed my earlier posts, here and on Facebook, the second of my women’s fiction serial series, ‘The Serial Dieter’, is free until Wednesday! Do help yourself and tell your friends… and your non-friends. Thank you!

So that’s me. How are you doing? Congrats to everyone (I know there are probably loads of you) who have reached the 50k/finished (not necessarily the same thing) already.

NaNoWriMo update day 28

Day 28 of NaNoWriMo and 133 words over target, leaving 8,299 to do tomorrow/Monday. A stretch but possible.

I finished the first draft of the third in my Rachel Cavanagh / Henry Houdini dog detective short spin-offs. ‘Henry and the Lawyer’, at just under 20,000 words, and have gone back to the monologues, finishing off some of the ones I’d started. They’re quite quick so I’m hopeful (determined) to get to the 50k.

In case you missed my post on Facebook, my quirky British crime novel ‘One for the Road’ is still free but finishes today. The second of my women’s fiction serial series, ‘The Serial Dieter’, though is free today until Wednesday! Do help yourself and tell your friends… and your non-friends. Thank you!

So that’s me. How are you doing? Congrats to everyone (I know there are a few of you) who have reached the 50k/finished (not necessarily the same thing) already.

NaNoWriMo update day 27

Day 27 of NaNoWriMo and a busy day so only 2,059 instead of 3,737 but it’s okay. I’m determined to smash it over the weekend.

I’m nearing the end of the first draft of the third in my Rachel Cavanagh / Henry Houdini dog detective short spin-offs. ‘Henry and the Lawyer’, and will probably go back to the monologues. They’re easier/quicker to do so that’ll help get the word count up. Also, I’m planning on submitting them for publication traditionally rather than self-publishing so good to get cracking with them.  They’re nearly 17,000 words so quite healthy… and fun to write so that helps.

In case you missed my previous posts, my quirky British crime novel ‘One for the Road’ is free but only until tomorrow (Saturday)! Please tell your friends… and your non-friends. Thank you!

So that’s me. How are you doing? Congrats to everyone (I know there are a few of you) who have reached the 50k/finished (not necessarily the same thing) already.

NaNoWriMo update day 26

Day 26 of NaNoWriMo and slightly over target: 3,643 instead of 3,318. Tomorrow’s target is 4,424. The numbers are all averages so they decrease each day when I go over. The main thing is that I get to the 50,000. I’m at 36,739 with four days to go. I should hit the ‘4’s tomorrow then home straight. 🙂

I was 22k behind when I finished work work earlier this month (and had done some of December’s so I can pick up on the 1st) and am currently 6,603 behind so weed those into the next few days and I’ll have caught up… just in time to finish.

I’m still on the first draft of the third in my Rachel Cavanagh / Henry Houdini dog detective short spin-offs. ‘Henry and the Lawyer’, and not totally sure how it’s going to end but I do think I’ll finish it tomorrow.

I’m not sure what I’ll do thereafter. I enjoy the monologue so I may go back to those. So no novel this month but that’s okay. I’ll go back to those when I have more time, less words that have to be done.

Speaking of novels… in case you missed my post earlier, my quirky British crime novel ‘One for the Road’ is free from today until Saturday! Please tell your friends… and your non-friends. Thank you!

So that’s me. How are you doing? Congrats to everyone (I know there are a few of you) who have reached the 50k/finished (not necessarily the same thing) already.

NaNoWriMo update day 25

Day 25 of NaNoWriMo and I’ve recovered a little. I’ve done 293 words over today’s target – still four thousand a day to do between now and next Monday inclusive, which is fine. I’ve gone from 22,549 behind to 8,579. Total written so far this month: 33,096 (thank you, Excel).

I’m about the halfway through the first draft of the third in my Rachel Cavanagh / Henry Houdini dog detective short spin-offs. ‘Henry and the Lawyer’, which should be no more than 20,000 words total so hopefully finishable on Friday.

So that’s me. How are you doing? Congrats to everyone (I know there are a few of you) who have reached the 50k/finished (not necessarily the same thing) already.

Word Count Wednesday 25 Nov

Yes, it’s that time of the week again. How have you been getting on?

I’ve been cracking on with NaNoWriMo. Taking a break from the monologues, I’ve finished the second (14+k of a 19k total: ‘Henry Goes To A Barbecue’) and a chunk (7+k) of the third (‘Henry and the Lawyer’) in my Rachel Cavanagh / Henry Houdini dog detective short spin-offs which I’m really enjoying. So a total of 21,963 words this past week (last Wednesday to last night). If only every week!

NaNoWriMo finishes next Monday so I hope for another healthy week (currently 12k behind, which is okay).

Do leave a comment below to share your progress, successes and otherwise, and of course anything else that’s happened to you, writing wise, over the past seven days.

NaNoWriMo update day 24

Day 24 of NaNoWriMo and I’ve not quite done the target of 3,449 today as I’d forgotten about a webinar (Mark Dawson’s ‘How Profitable Are Your Ads?’). That’s my excuse but a poor one as it didn’t start until 9pm!

I simply had too many distractions (mostly not writing related so another poor excuse) although I did do a bit of work work and needed to set up some paid promotion and KDP free/99p countdown dates for some of my books… the joy of a self-published author, which I did.

So I’d done 2,386* to that point, 1,046 short so catchupable tomorrow or thereafter, with a new average of 4,118.

*All more of the first draft of the third in my Rachel Cavanagh / Henry Houdini dog detective short spin-offs. ‘Henry and the Lawyer’ which I’m enjoying… that’s the most important thing.

So that’s me. Short (actually 5’10”) and sweet (some have said) today. How are you doing?
